Ok, decided to start from scratch. Reinstalled the Ubuntu 18.04. Sound works before I install nvidia-drivers.But immediately after nvidia-drivers there is no sound.

To reproduce:

  • Do a stock install of ubuntu 18.04
  • Validate sound is working
  • Then install nvidia-driver
  • ubuntu-drivers devices
  • sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall
  • sudo reboot
  • nvidia-smi (Driver 430.26 installed and working correctly
  • Test sound - Failure (No sound on speaker and headphones)
  • install and run pavucontrol to ensure there is Built-in Analog Stereo. Yes
  • run alsamixer and ensure all volumes are turned up
  • test again. Still no Sound

Any help / pointers appreciated
